It is obvious, but often overlooked, that all business results ultimately depend on people, their education, engagement, motivation, as well as performance.
Companies today are struggling with many problems and challenges. All share the same denominator – the human factor. Yes, it is precisely people who are often referred to as the greatest value of a company, the greatest comparative advantage, the most valuable thing companies have.
Employees truly represent for a company the possibility to gain a competitive and comparative advantage. This is because companies can acquire most other production factors under approximately the same conditions thanks to open competitive markets. The advantage in the form of employees concerns especially the areas of management, research, or marketing, but also engaged employees at all levels. Since it is also a cost factor – personnel costs are high and in addition every company must calculate with the fact that an employee is protected by law. For example, their dismissal is regulated by law and often associated with severance pay. These facts require the necessity of thorough personnel planning.
In the final result another angle on employees emerges, as on a production factor. Here it is necessary to respect the fact that the conditions under which an employee delivers optimal performance are not as easily discoverable and fulfillable as is the case with machines. With that are associated high demands on the quality of personnel management, of which performance management, engagement and many other factors are part.
