Performance at Work. Is It Really Necessary to Measure Everything?

It’s clear, though often overlooked, that all business results ultimately depend on people, their education, engagement, motivation, and performance.

Today’s companies are facing numerous challenges. The common denominator in all of them is the human factor. People are often described as the greatest asset a company has, its most valuable comparative advantage.

Employees truly offer a company the chance to gain a competitive edge. Unlike other production inputs that can be acquired under similar conditions thanks to open markets, people cannot be replicated so easily. This applies particularly to roles in management, research, and marketing, but also to engaged employees at every level of the organization.

Since labor is also a cost factor, with high personnel expenses and legally protected rights, companies must approach workforce planning with care. Letting an employee go, for example, is subject to regulations and may involve severance pay. These realities demand a thoughtful, strategic approach to HR planning.

There’s also another perspective to consider: employees as a production factor. Unlike machinery, the conditions under which people perform at their best are not easy to identify or replicate. This raises the bar for quality in HR management, particularly in areas like performance management, employee engagement, and team dynamics.
